In celebration of its Silver Anniversary, and in response to countless requests, Montague Corporation is launching a frame program, making its bare frames available for the first time.

For the past 25 years, Montague has been designing and manufacturing full-size bikes that fold, complete with full-size wheels and standard components.  Thanks to their patented Folding Integrated Technology (F.I.T.) system, Montague bikes fold in as little as 10 seconds without the use of tools, and offer the same performance and ride quality as comparably priced non-folding bikes.  And while it’s always been possible to personalize a Montague by swapping out components, the launch of Montague’s Frame Program sets a new standard for fully custom folding bike builds.

When you think about folding bikes, custom builds aren’t the first thing that spring to mind.  But Montague Corporation, an industry leader in folding bikes, is changing that. Montague’s Frame Program makes the notion of a “custom folding bike” a reality.  Unlike small-wheeled folders that require unique telescoping stems, thick seat posts, and odd wheel sizes, Montague’s full-size folding frames can be built up with any off-the-shelf components riders want.

As the population density of cities rises, so too have folding bike sales.   Likewise, custom builds are increasingly popular and the combination of these two trends has led designers at Montague to respond to the increasing demand for a fully customizable folding bike.

Montague’s program includes three different frame styles: a single speed with horizontal dropouts, a road bike with carbon fork, and a hard-tail mountain bike.  Montague is currently taking orders for frames which will ship in March 2013.  “Montague frames are compatible with a wide variety of industry standard components, so they’re easy to customize,” said Montague Product Manager, Jonathan Vandenberg.  “Montague riders have been sending us pictures of their unique builds for years, but since frames weren’t available, they had to purchase the complete bike and strip it down.  For Montague’s 25th Anniversary, we decided that it was time to offer folding frames for fully custom builds.”

Vandenberg added, “When a dealer sells a frame, he is more likely to also sell all the other high margin components to build out the bike, thus increasing his profit.  We think this program will go a long way toward building strong and lasting relationships between Montague riders and their dealers.”

With the launch of its Frame Program, Montague has secured its place at the forefront of the industry, redefining the possibilities for folding bicycles.  25 years ago, Montague challenged conventional ideas about folding bicycles by introducing a line of full-size bikes that fold.  Like small-wheeled folding bikes, Montague’s full-sized bikes can fold to fit conveniently in the trunk of a car, on a bus, or in a closet.  But unlike other folders, Montague’s frames are fully customizable, from the tires to the handlebar grips, and every component in between.  With Montague’s Frame Program, riders can finally have a folding bike as unique as they are.
