The Electric Bike for General Aviation:
Montague Launches World’s First Foldable, Full-size, Step-through E-Bike

Electric bikes are sweeping the outdoor industry by storm, providing riders with increased range, more power, and the ability to conquer trails with ease. Up until now their unwieldy size made them less than ideal for pilots, but Montague Bikes is changing that with the all new M-E1. America’s leading maker of full-size folding bikes has broken the mold with the M-E1, a performance trekking e-bike that folds in seconds with a single quick release. The patent-pending design allows the full-size mid-drive e-bike to stow in a plane’s cargo hold or back seat, offering reliable ground transportation and recreation. Finally, an electric bike exists for the general aviation pilot.

“We set out to build an electric bike that can go where others cannot. Pilots, travelers, and so many outdoor enthusiasts have been deterred from owning an e-bike due to space constraints and a lack of portability with the current designs,” said David Montague, President and founder of Montague Bikes. “The M-E1 offers pilots a compact folding design for easy storage that unfolds in seconds to deliver a full-sized electric bike to take them anywhere they want to go. Pilots need an e-bike that can handle the trails in the remote areas they fly to, and still stow in a tight space at the end of the day. Small wheel folding bikes won’t cut it, but the M-E1 can do it all.”

Montague’s patent-pending frame design makes folding and transporting the bike quick and effortless. The weight of the bike is supported by the double-leg kickstand during folding, so riders don’t need to lift or support the bike in any way. Once folded, the bike can be rolled for transport by holding the handlebar and simply tilting the bike onto the wheels. The fold-and-roll design makes the M-E1 the most portable e-bike on the market, and for even more compact storage, the handlebars fold with an additional quick release, creating a 38″ x 38″ x 13″ package.

The Montague M-E1 comes equipped with a Shimano STEPS E6100 mid-drive motor, the newest premium e-bike system from the world leader in bicycle components. The compact, lightweight, and powerful 250W motor ensures riders can tackle trails and hills with ease and arrive at their destination feeling fresh and invigorated. A 36V / 418Wh lithium battery pack provides up to 80 kilometers of pedal assist on a single charge. The system is paired with a Shimano Deore drivetrain for reliable shifting, and an SR Suntour NEX suspension fork for a smooth ride over the rough or non-existent roads around remote airstrips. Shimano Deore hydraulic disc brakes offer superb stopping power in all conditions.

The custom drawn aluminum frame features an integrated rear rack to provide secure cargo capacity with a sleek and seamless design. E-bike specific Schwalbe Energizer Plus tires provide maximum durability, low rolling resistance, and superior grip. Mud guards and built-in Herrmans LED front and rear lights ensure riders will be visible in all weather.

The Montague M-E1 retails for $3599.00. The Montague M-E1 is introduced as part of the company’s complete line of high performance folding bikes which includes 700c road/urban models and 26″/27.5″ wheel mountain models.
